Lab: Recapping your Confidence with Point Cloud Data

Point Cloud Data is becoming more common on projects today. But users are still unsure how to get the most from scans. Unbeknownst to most, Autodesk Recap is part of the AECC collection and here to save your day. So, let’s explore and learn how managing, slicing and dicing these points will make for a quicker, smoother and less frightening experience so you know how to tackle your next point cloud project with ease.

Point Cloud is the new kid on the block, with all things new it can be quite confronting dealing with your first point cloud project. Most users are only using a handful of software within their AECC collection. But what most don’t know is the Autodesk Recap comes part of the collection and is a great tool for dealing with point cloud data.
This course is designed to give you an in depth understanding of how scans are performed on in the field and show you how to deal with these scans using Autodesk Recap and it features.
The features we will focus on will be:
– Scanning in the field:
– Basic scanning knowledge
– Where to position scanner for best scans
Within the Recap Environment:
– Importing and registering scanned data (Automatically and Manually)
– Setting up project Settings
– Setting up Co Ordinates and X, Y, Z directions of the project
– Setting up the Project Origin
– Cleaning up Noisy points
– Create Scan Regions
– Create View States
– Review scan locations
– Grouping View States and creating Animations
– Import/ Export Regions
Within the Revit Environment:
– Importing Scans
– Working with Point Cloud data
– Manipulating regions and scan locations
– Recommended Best Practices
