Session 2.2
Adaptability in Conceptual Civil Infrastructure Modelling for Construction
Synopsis: Laing O Rourke have been using BricsCAD to solve logistical challenges and model 3D Geometry for a variety of projects (mainly in linear infrastructure). This presentation focuses on the adaptability of the solution in terms of keeping the process simple while achieving the desired result.
1. Present real scenarios where 3D Models needed to be created by contractors to enable construction.
2. Discuss and debate the dynamics of how much detail needs to be modelled by the contractor for challenges such as temporary works, staged gradings etc in terms of time challenges, accuracy and documentation.
3. Show some of the AI, Automation tools to assist with this and discuss their practicality in the real world.
4. Demonstration of workflows used to solve construction challenges while keeping the process simple.
Synopsis:
Laing O Rourke have been using BricsCAD to solve logistical challenges and model 3D Geometry for a variety of projects (mainly in linear infrastructure). This presentation focuses on the adaptability of the solution in terms of keeping the process simple while achieving the desired result.
Learning Objectives:
Body:
This session focuses on the challenge in Horizontal Linear Infrastructure Projects where the contractor needs to model scenarios such as:
• Excavations (and combinations of multiple staged excavations).
• Earthworks Volumes.
• General Temporary Works and calculations for jobs such as Combined Services Routes (CSR), installing a water main, Pile Shaft with a Capping Beam, accessing pipes etc
The challenge is to enable the efficient modelling of design and alternate options with accuracy and simplicity. As a main contractor there is not often the time or need to develop a fully compliant design model that is attuned to full civil packages there is still a need for confidence in the results.
BricsCAD has been used for TIN modelling with Grading Objects and 3D solid modelling features to achieve this. This is further supplemented with the AI and Automation features to propagate design details and automatically add parameters to 2D and 3D Blocks for detail.
