Session 3.3
Environmentally Driven Facade System Using Rhino, Grasshopper, Lady-Bug and Skin-designer.
Synopsis: Responsive or preformative facades system,
Introduction to Ladybug & Skin designer , Plug-ins for Grasshopper.
Exploring Data Interchangeability between Rhino and Revit.
Panels shapes are responding to environmental factors such as sun location or amount of Radiation.
Environmental Analysis can reveal insight and potentially influence the design.
Such approach can lead to Data Driven Design.Learning Objectives: 1. GrassHopper , Revit , Rhino, LadyBug , Skin_designer
2. Environmentally Aware decision
3. Responsive Facade DesignBody: Geometry of Revit are inserted into Rhino and meshed in Rhino and Grasshopper.
An Environmental Analysis is performed on the facades of the buildings to calculate the amount of radiation and illuminate.
In this example, The facade’s design are influenced by amount of Sun Radiation.
In other words, The size of the opening in the panel is a linear function of measured Sun Radiation on the area (Kwh/m2. )
We have defined a four type for the panels on the surface.
These tools allow us to make environmentally conscious decisions in early design phases by conducting on proposed building envelope.
Eg: Assign Various Glass type to facade design and control the level of light intensity and illumine by assigning more specific type of material to the glasses.
Eg: Assign reflective Glass to places with higher level of radiation, such approach will lead to more of the sun to be reflected out of the building. Such approach might lead to lower energy consumption during hot summer days !
Eg: Width and Height of panels are defined based on annual Solar study to block unwanted sun in hot summer day , Also let more sun in cold winter days!
