How Southbase Construction is using digital Technologies to Achieve better BIM workflows in the Construction Phase
Synopsis:
As a digital lead in Southbase Construction, I will explain how Southbase is using digital technologies to achieve better BIM workflows in the pre-construction and construction phases. There are definitely joy and tears in our digital journey from 2016.
This session will give designers and construction professionals an opportunity to understand the BIM workflows from a main contractor perspective and how we could use the digital technologies to achieve better outcomes.

1. Determine what procedures a main contractor took during model coordination.
2. Understand how main contractor utilise the digital information on-site.
3. Discuss how to keep up-to-date the different technologies change in our construction industry.
Body:
There is always a gap between design team and construction during the information handover phase. Also, the construction and technology industries are changing fast.
How do we scale face the challenge we had; how do we bring every person on every team closer together? It begins with technology that build trust. We will divide our session into three parts: pre-construction, construction phases and education and training.
The first part aims to shed some light on the pre-construction phase, how we use digital tool like Revizto for project visualisation, improving coordination for clash detection, and better collaboration and communication amongst the team.
The second part focuses on what we need as a contractor on site and how technology enable us to utilise the digital information from the design team during the construction phase. For example, our site team can use the 3D model in AR(augmented reality) to gain better understanding of the design compared to when they used a 2D model. Also, by using drone and 360 cameras, the construction monitoring process make our life a lot easier especially during the pandemic period.
Lastly, education and upskilling the Southbase team has gone a long way in facilitating the digital journey. Building our in-house digital skillset is key and we also share the knowledge with our clients and sub-contractors to help them along on the digital collaborative journey.
