Session 1.3
Mixing Realities – Collaborative Spatial Design with Arkio
Synopsis:
Get hands-on with the latest XR devices to mix realities and create designs on your existing models. Work together and export your work back and forth between Revit, Rhino Unity, and Sketchup. This lab will teach the basics of collaborative spatial design and introduce practical workflows that can redefine your design presentations and charrettes.
Learning Objectives:
1. Get hands-on with the latest VR technology during this session
2. Discover how VR/AR can be used as in interactive design and authoring tool
3. Experience the impact of collaboration and spatial design
Body:
Join us for one of the first multiuser VR labs where attendees can go hands-on with the technology and master the next generation of metaverse tools. During this Lab, normal flat- screen workstations will be accompanied by wireless VR headsets, tablets and phones. Teams will learn about the controls and capabilities of these tools while following along with practical workflows in a fun interactive way.
We will talk about why we created Arkio and how it can add a virtual collaborative extension to your current design tools based on examples from major architecture firms and universities. The collaborative nature of Arkio makes it an ideal tool for hosting live demos and interactive sessions. For this session, teams will work together in small groups to create design options that will be loaded back and forth to Revit, Rhino, Unity, Sketchup and BIM 360
Attendees can expect to learn about:
• Navigation 3D modeling with VR controllers and hand tracking
• Collaborative modeling from various devices (VR, desktop, mobile)
• Program calculations, design options and design reviews
• Exporting designs to native Revit families and masses
• Creating parametric geometry and reusable components
• Mixing realities with the real world using AR passthrough
• Working with Lidar scans, Open Street Maps and more
We will distribute wireless headsets to groups of 3-4 attending this session to allow users to switch between VR/AR headsets, Lab PC’s and their own personal devices based on their interest and comfort throughout the session.
Showing this all live will demonstrate how this technology can change the way designers engage with their audience. And what better way to learn about collaborative design than together with the Arkio team and your friends at DBEI!
