Synopsis:

This panel discussion will look at how open-source software and tools can be used within the AEC industry. We will do this by asking our panelists about the pros and cons of open source, along with its unique use cases.

Learning Objectives:

1. What is open source, and why it doesn’t always mean free?
2. What are the major pros and cons to open source vs proprietary software/tools in the AEC industry?
3. How open source tools can be part of your AEC workflow, even if you’re not a programmer

Body:

“This panel discussion will look at how open source software and tools can be used within the AEC industry. We will do this by asking our panelists about the pros and cons of open source, along with its unique use cases.
During this session, we will define what exactly open source is and how it can be helpful in an AEC workflow. We’ll discuss the benefits of the open source community and why open source doesn’t always mean free. The panelist will explain why you don’t have to be a coder to use or get the benefits of open-source tools and software. And we will leave time at the end of the session for attendees to ask the panelists questions.
The goal of this session is share knowledge and insight about open source from industry experts who are part of the open source community themselves.
