Synopsis:

Have you ever had to deal with a point cloud? A good analysis before jumping to Revit is the key to success. We can analyze the pointcloud looking for deformations that are hard to check in Revit. What kind of questions will the pointcloud answer for us?

(All LAB attendees must bring their own devices.)

Learning Objectives:

1. Learn how to work with pointclouds outside the Autodesk environment
2. Lear how to use statistics to retrieve information from pointclouds
3. Learn how to leverage the power of color mapping to pointclouds

Body:

This workshop is intended to show you how we can extract information from point clouds beyond the visualization in Recap or Revit. Maybe you have taken distances between points to inspect a pointcloud but, what if we use all the points and analyze all of them together? Can we have some insights from this? We will do an exercise with CloudCompare, an open-source software for pointcloud and meshes processing. We will use statistical analysis to check the flatness of a slab and represent its deformations with a color map.

The features we will focus on will be:
-Importing/exporting pointclouds from Recap.
-Review of pointcloud tools inside Revit. Tips and tricks.
-Cloud compare overview
-Measurements
Decimation
Snipping
Scalar fields
Meshing

(All installation instructions will be provided by the speaker.)
