Synopsis:

Jens will in this talk take us on the journey of BIM at BIG over the years, and how it’s been to re-saddle the whole BIM setup along the way, in a fast-paced design firm like BIG. Jens will be sharing some of the thoughts, steps & developments that were done to make this as smooth as possible, as well as some insights into the wider setup at BIG.

Learning Objectives:

1. Learn how BIM has developed over the years in a firm like BIG, and where they are heading regarding BIM
2. How to change your primary BIM platform in a fast-paced design firm, and what to consider in the process
3. How to use and visualize your data, to make quicker and more informed decisions, based on the data from your BIM models

Body:

BIG have successfully been using BIM for many years, also on some of the more significant and complex projects, but it’s also been a bumpy ride at times with multiple BIM platforms used in a rapid growing company. Having gone from being a 60 people firm back in 2010, to become a more than 600 people large global organisation 10 years later, requires a solid strategy to be in place. This was one of the main reasons why the company back in 2018 decided to streamline the BIM procedures and focus on one primary BIM platform in all their offices. This meant a major switch in the Copenhagen office, and a complete re-structure of the BIM setup. Jens will in this talk take us on that journey, and will be sharing some of the thoughts, steps & developments that was done to make the switch as smooth as possible. This talk will be a combination of looking at the implementation strategy for the switch, as well as the global BIM strategy behind, mixed up with some good stories and a series of small case studies along the way, such as Copenhill the waste to energy plant with a ski slope on the roof, as well as BIG’s own new headquarter that is being build in Copenhagen as we speak, among other exciting projects. Lastly Jens will also be showing a preview of some in-house developed audit tools and plug-ins that was created to help visualize, oversee and manage the BIM projects in a more informed and easy manner going forward, utilizing their local amount of BIG data. The talk will be rounded off with a look ahead towards what’s next for BIM at BIG, with some thoughts on where they see some of the current trends are heading, and where their focus will be. 🚀
