Friday Plenary: Introducing Steve Burrows

DBEI is incredibly proud to announce Steve Burrows, as our Friday morning Plenary speaker. Steve Burrows CBE is a Professional Engineer. He advises firms about the impact of change in the construction industry driven by technology. Steve has worked in Europe, Asia and the US on projects such as the Birdsnest Stadium, the new Apple Campus and Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. He was a member of the Americas Board of Arup, led AECOMs America’s Building Engineering business and then WSP’s US Buildings business before joining Katerra as an Executive and leader of Engineering.

Steve was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty the Queen in 2009 and received an Honorary Fellowship from his alma mater Liverpool John Moores University in 2018. He is adamant that this is the greatest time in history to be in the AEC industry and he presents TV shows such as Time Scanners, Engineering the Impossible and recently Dream Big a 3D IMAX movie narrated by Jeff Bridges as a way to broadcast this. Steve is passionate about the potential for AEC in a digital future revolutionizing construction from first principles creating a quantum shift in quality and speed with a fraction of the labor and substantially lower cost.
His session for this year’s Plenary is entitled “Why this is the greatest time to be in the Construction Industry” and focuses on why Architecture, Engineering and Construction is ripe for disruption, the drivers of change and the opportunities for people and technologies in a digital future. To curate what we’re sure is going to be an amazing plenary session, Steve will be joined by Devon Tilly from Digital Built Week’s official podcast partner, Art of Construction, who’s podcast focuses on helping contractors and affiliates grow their business by exploring the world of construction.
