Go behind the scenes of Edinburgh St James, on the Open Door Tour

Join us on the Open Door Tour, where we take you to the site of Edinburgh St James with Kenny McNally of Allan Murray Architects (AMA) to give an overview of the development of this £850 million mixed use project, from it’s inception in 2006 to its opening in October 2020.

Now, with 12 months to go, we can show you how the Shops, Car Parking, Housing, Roomzzz Aparthotel, Everyman Cinema and 5-star W hotel are shaping up in one of Scotland’s most significant developments for many years.

The talk will follow:

• The evolution of the design through close consultation with the Planning Department and the concept of the “block of marble” that formed the basis of the Outline Planning approval in 2008.
• The appointment of Laing O’Rourke as Contractor and BDP as technical architects to develop the design through the construction stages and the shift in role for AMA to “guardian of the design” to ensure the original concept was maintained as the needs of Contractor, Suppliers, Agents and Tenants were thrown into the mix.
• To conclude Kenny will explain how this process was controlled by the client’s team, both in terms of the contractual arrangements and keeping the Planning Department onside.
