    • BILT Virtual 2021 | Stream Two: Remote, Hybrid or Asynchronous: Leading Teams in the new world of work (20mins)
      Ceilidh Higgins (2), CBRE

      Synopsis:

In 2020 many of became part of one of the largest workplace experiments of all time – remote working. Particularly for architecture and engineering companies many people would have said it was not possible – we are too reliant on collaboration and technology. But because we had to and the fact the world all went remote at once and we had no choices simplified this process.

However, the bigger challenge is now beginning. There is substantial evidence to prove that both employee satisfaction and productivity went up. Many people want to continue to work remotely, others are desperate to be back on the offices and managers still frequently understand how to manage the process.

How do we balance the world on remote work with the return to the physical work place? In fact, even before 2020, there were already many people and teams working in different mixes of remote and dispersed workplaces, both in our industry and others for many years. In some parts of Australia, we have already been living in this new world or work for almost a year. We can learn from these teams, from research into the world of workplace strategy and from our own experiments.

Through Ceilidh’s experience as a workplace design strategist as well as over 10 years of leading dispersed design teams we will explore the research behind the great remote experiment, the leadership mindset required to help hybrid working succeed and the physical and technological changes that could allow your team to WFAA (work from anywhere anytime) whilst retaining a great collaborative culture and maintaining productivity.
