BILT Academy
Why
To provide students and educators the opportunity to discover the current state of the art practices and workflows, they need to be connected to industry. Through collaboration and communication, we aim to inspire the next generation of practitioners and foster ongoing improvements in our industry. We want to pre-empt future problems through knowledge and collaboration, we want to improve our built environment.
Who
We are BILT Academy, a part of the global non-profit Digital Built Environment Institute (DBEI). We are a group of hardworking students from all over Europe, and soon from across the globe, dedicated to studies and work in the building industry and the built environment. We are a voice for the student community within DBEI, focused on representing student needs and interests to the broader professional community. We are members of the BILT event committees, helping shape the event agendas to ensure the needs of students are met. We are a collective voice to the industry, explaining and evangelising student’s commitments to practice, productivity and positive change.
What & How
To improve student knowledge, to expand student opportunities, to expose students to industry experience;
BILT Academy will undertake a series of activities:
- A multi-disciplinary summit, covering one-day and co-located with the BILT conference in Europe; we are bringing together practitioners and students to work in collaborative teams to discover, explore, and respond to the latest in BIM methodologies, technology and process changes in software and project management.
- Representation on the local BILT event committees. As students, we are best placed to recognise and represent the interests and needs of the student community within the broader BILT community. Through involvement in the abstract review process, attendance to BILT committee workshops, and ongoing feedback to the BILT committee members, we can influence discussions on industry directions and development approaches that BILT and DBEI develop.
- The creation and operation of a series of activities and competitions within the BILT environment to expose industry practitioners to the training, knowledge and skills available via the student community.
- A mentor program matching BILT Academy students to industry participants for advice and guidance on their studies and career development.
