How to innovate like a pro
Synopsis: This class will explore the concept of innovation in a systematic and evidence-based approach. We’ll then discuss how to avoid cognitive biases when identifying innovation opportunities. Finally, we’ll look at how to align visions and define a strategy.Learning Objectives: 1. Learn to differentiate between sustaining and disruptive technologies
2. Understand the innovator’s dilemma and how to respond accordingly
3. Identify and define differences between operational effectiveness and strategyBody: Within the AEC technology sphere, terms such as ‘Innovation’ and ‘Digital transformation’ are frequently thrown around as a way for companies to position themselves as industry leaders. But what do these terms really mean? How do we separate the marketing hype from the reality? And how can companies avoid being one of the 70% in which change initiatives fail?
By elevating the discourse from technology to strategy, we’ll explore these topics in a systematic and evidence-based approach. We’ll first explore the difference between sustaining and disruptive technologies and how doing the right thing is actually the wrong thing. We’ll then discuss how to avoid cognitive biases when identifying innovation opportunities and managing your innovation portfolio. Finally, we’ll look at how to align visions and define a strategy.
This class is aimed at design technology managers who wish to gain greater traction in implementing change in their organisation.
