Session 1.5
Putting the Structural back into Revit Modeling
Synopsis:
After you learn the basics and after you have put together a structural model or even twenty, there will come a time when the basic suite of elements won’t be enough to convey the design intent. So what do you do? You’ll have to actually model something from scratch.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understanding model categorization and assembly code options to control generic model elements.
2. Understanding when to model by scratch and when to not. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
3. Exploration of external geometry aids when modeling. Don’t model it twice if you can help it!
4. Once modeled, what can you do with it and how will other people know to work with it?
Body:
Many Revit gurus will tell you that there are multiple ways to model anything in Revit. The question is really determining the right approach for your condition. Well, that is going to depend on what you are trying to model, why you are modeling it, and how you expect it to perform once modeled. Is it going to be parametric? Can you flex it? Can you track it? Can you include it in a takeoff or a schedule? These types of decisions will impact the direction you take. This class aims to explain how to model complicated conditions and offer up insights into the best way for any given situation.
