Session 3.3
10 Tips and Tricks for developing complex Pipe Fittings and Accessories.
Synopsis:
Revit families are the backbone to a good workflow within Revit. Revit Pipe Fittings and Accessories are one of the more complex families to build within Revit. In this presentation, I will go through 10 tips and tricks that every developer should know when creating Revit Pipe Fittings and Accessories.
Learning Objectives:
1. Working with Lookup Tables to drive dimensions and data in pipe fittings and accessories.
2. Creating take-offs of nested components within a pipe fitting or accessory.
3. Understand what some of the unique functions in pipe fittings are before developing them.
4. Developing pipe fittings or accessories that are limited to specific sizes or that can work with any size.
Body:
Having robust Revit families can be helpful in creating an effective Revit project. However, how these families are built will determine how useful the families are for an organization. In this presentation, I will show various processes and methods used to create effective Revit pipe fittings and accessories that are repeatable and effective for an organization.
As part of this presentation I will explain how the use of lookup tables can be used to not only drive dimensions within a family but also nested components and various other data properties that can be critical in performing scheduling. I will also demonstrate how creating nested components within a family can expand the families capabilities with minimal additional effort.
Developing families in general can be a difficult task for some; for others, it’s like chewing gum (easy). When developing any family, there are often unique settings or challenges that are included with a particular family category within Revit. Throughout this presentation, I will look at a variety of different Revit pipe fitting and accessory families and identify some of the nuances of them to help in building a more effective and functional family.
