Jay Merlan

Strategic Solutions Lead

Jay Merlan’s passion for digital construction began at 14 years old when he started to build 2.5-dimensional models to create custom video game maps. Decades later, Jay has honed his passion for technology to support the creation of data-rich models for the building industry.

With over 15 years of experience in the AEC sector, his background as BIM Manager at multiple MEP firms eventually led to his role as the National BIM Lead at Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI). After several years of establishing BIM workflows on the design side of the industry, Jay sought out to enrich his knowledge further and was inspired to learn how BIM is used in construction. This prompted Jay to move into his role as VDC Coordinator on a variety of high-profile construction projects where he was immersed in the BIM processes that directly affect on-site activities.

Today, Jay is the Strategic Solutions Lead for Unifi Labs, Inc. and has his sights set on leveraging BIM data throughout all facets of the AECO industry. He not only lends his experience to clients by providing insight on implementation of Unifi’s suite of tools, but also engages with strategic clients such as Katerra to assist in BIM standards development. Jay leverages his industry experience to help drive the vision, growth and innovation of the Unifi platform as well as to support Unifi’s sales, marketing, and customer success efforts.

COVID-19 Update

20th May 2020

DBEI has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation around the world. While some parts of our society are beginning to open in baby-steps, none of us know how the situation will develop over the coming months. As such, DBEI has now made the decision to postpone all our 2020 events to 2021 as the well-being of all our partners and participants in our events remains our utmost priority. For new details on each region please visit our event pages. We have also sent communications to all registered attendees, speakers or sponsors for all of our 2020 events.

In the interim, DBEI will be launching several exciting virtual events and webinars in 2020 to continue to deliver the same expertise, insights and knowledge to the AEC industry during these uncertain times. We also have some other exciting initiatives we are working on to continue to provide value to our community, which we look forward to sharing with you all shortly.

We wish to thank you all for your support and appreciate your patience and understanding under the current circumstances and will continue to update our website and the community if there are any changes.

If you have any concerns or questions about our events please email us at info@dbei.org
